Wireless Network “AUC-WLAN” Use Guide

Dear All,

The New Wireless network is named “AUC-WLAN” for all users to connect to. When connecting to the wireless network from your device, choose “AUC-WLAN”. As with the current set-up, enter your AUC e-mail “username” and “Password” for authentication. You will then be connected to the network.

The wireless network “AUC-WLAN” uses a different authentication technique that is more secure and more convenient as you will be prompted to enter the credentials (usernames and passwords) just once.

Apple devices “iPhones – iPads – iMACs – MAC notebooks” and Windows machines do not need any manual settings. They connect automatically with no issues after entering the normal E-mail username and password. Only Windows XP machines need special setup. The windows XP setup guide sheet is provided in a separate file.

The following are some scenarios for connecting to the “AUC-WLAN” network:

Case 1:

Connect to “AUC-WLAN” network and a pop-up screen will show up asking for a user name and password.

Enter your AUC E-mail username and password and you should be connected to the AUC new wireless network.

Case2:

You might get a certificate warning window as shown below. In this case, you can safely press “connect” or “Accept” to accept the certificate and resume the connection.

Case3:

You might be repeatedly prompted to re-enter the “Username” and “Password”. In such case, please use another network connected computer to access the AUC webmail site via “http://mail.aucegypt.edu”and change your e-mail account password. The AUC E-mail supplier “Google mail” is requesting to use more secure passwords that has to be at least 8 characters long and should include some “upper case, special, and/or number” characters, to comply with their new password security policies. After setting the new E-mail password the user will be able to connect as described before in “Case1” onto the new Wireless System. If you still face the same problem, please contact IT help-desk “ext. 1200” to check.

Please note and make sure that the new password should be changed in all your other devices used to get the e-mails such as “Mobiles and Pads”.

Case 4 – Mobile devices:

Samsung phones with android OS and Blackberry devices do connect with no issues. A little network modification needs to done to get them working fine:

For Samsung: Phase2 authentication: should be set to EAP-MS-CHAP v2

For Blackberry: Inner link security: should be set to EAP-MS-CHAP v2 and disable certificate validation.

In brief: Android “Samsung”, IOS “iPhone”, and RIM “Blackberry” enabled phones are the only operating systems that have been tested so far and they are all working perfectly fine.

Thank you for your patience

Best regards,

HanyYousry
